Performative group exhibition
In May 2024, first-year students of the ISSP School presented a performative photography exhibition titled “Trying On Marriage.” Taking place at 34 Avotu Street in Riga, the exhibition invited visitors to “try on marriage” by being photographed in one of its most traditional symbols — a white wedding dress.
The choice of location was deliberate: for decades, Avotu Street has been a hub of wedding dress salons. Through a process of photographic co-creation and collaboration between photographers and participants, the exhibition explored the deeply layered and enduring theme of marriage. The resulting photographs became part of a creative, exploratory, and at times healing process, serving as a deconstruction of personal illusions and dreams.
The exhibition was realized by:
Agnese Upmale, Agnija Grīnberga, Aija Vītoliņa, Ainārs Ščipčinskis, Annija Mangale, Bruno Vavers, Dāvis Šķēle, Elizabete Anna Jākobsone, Elza Gaitniece, Inga Bitere, Jevgēnija Frolova, Karīna Šumkova, Liene Ieviņa, Līva Arnava, Maija Sjomkane, Niklāvs Kadiķis, Rūta Jēkabsone, Signe Reinholde–Āboliņa
Curator: Iveta Gabaliņa
